Cougars Strong Again at Hidden Duals; End Play in Milwaukee

Play continued Saturday for Cougars Eva Alvarez Sande and Maxine Murphy at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic from the Nicolet Tennis Center in Glendale, Wisc.

In her first match Saturday, WSU redshirt-junior Maxine Murphy won her second round of the backdraw, defeating Mississippi’s Lucie Petruzelova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1. In her second match Saturday, Murphy battled  Tennessee’s Saray Yli-Piipari in a tough three-setter before falling 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9).

In doubles action, Alvarez Sande and Murphy advanced to the semifinal round as they posted a 6-4 victory over Purdue’s Fatima Gutierrez and Ida Clement. In the semis, a few early breaks of serve proved to be too much to overcome as the Cougar duo dropped a 6-3 match to Oklahoma’s Salakthip Ounmang and Roisin Gilheany,
