Cougars Open Play at Duck Invitational


EUGENE, Ore. (Nov. 1, 2024) – Freshmen Chisato Kanemaki and Martina Puvill each posted two wins to lead Washington State during the first day of play at the 2024 Duck Invitational Friday, played at the Student Tennis Center.
 
In the hidden dual format, the Cougars played doubles against one team and singles against another. WSU began with doubles and captured one of four matches as Kanemaki and Puvill captured the lone win with a 6-2 win over Boise State’s Bhakti Shah and Ariadna Briones Ginesta
 
In singles action against Idaho, WSU came away with three wins in five matches, all in three sets. Kanemaki came from behind in a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) victory over Valentina Rodas while Puvill also went the distance in her win over Lena Beckx, winning 3-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (10-5). Sophomore Martina Markov came away with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over Valentina Rodas. Senior Hania Abouelsaad dropped a 7-5, 6-2 decision to Naomi Schraeder, and WSU freshman Madhu Satishbabu fell 7-6 (3), 6-3 to Ida Johansson.
 
Play continues Saturday at the Duck Invitational with one singles and one doubles match.
