Cougars Complete Play at Battle in the Bay


SAN FRANCISCO – Senior Elyse Tse and junior Yura Nakagawa came up short in their doubles semifinal against the top-seeded Oklahoma State duo to close out the final day at the 2024 Battle in the Bay, Saturday at the California Tennis Club.
 
Facing the top-seeded Cowboy pair of Ange Oby Kajuru and Anastsiya Komar, who finished the 2024 season ranked No. 1 nationally, the Cougars battled before falling 8-3.
 
In the consolation singles draw, Tse started slow but picked it up in the second set before dropping a late break of serve against Pepperdine’s Taylor Goetz, 6-1, 7-5. In another consolation match, Nakagawa took it to a third tiebreaker before falling 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) to UC Santa Barbara’s Alexandra Benedetto.
 
WSU returns to the court Sat., Sept. 21 when a contingent of players head to Cary, N.C. for the ITA Women’s All-American Championships.
