TALLAHASSEE – Florida State junior Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc was named the ACC’s co-Player of the Week on Tuesday, his third weekly honor after earning Player of the Week and Doubles Pair of the Week on January 17.
Cornut-Chauvinc is ranked 12th nationally in singles and boasts a 5-0 record while playing at the No. 1 position this season. All six of his singles opponents have been ranked, and he most recently defeated No. 23 Finn Bass of Baylor 6-4, 6-2 during the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Waco, Texas. In Cornut-Chauvinc’s other match during the ITA Kickoff Weekend, he was leading the country’s 68th-ranked player 4-3 in the third set when FSU clinched the team victory and his match was unfinished.
The Lyon, France, native was named ACC Player of the Week and joined with Barnaby Smith to earn ACC Doubles Pair of the Week following FSU’s 5-2 win over No. 7 Georgia. Cornut-Chauvinc defeated the No. 1-ranked collegiate singles player in America 6-1, 7-5 and also teamed with Smith for a 7-6 (3) win over the nation’s 19th-ranked doubles duo that clinched the doubles point for Florida State.
Cornut-Chauvinc and the Seminoles are back in action Thursday. Florida State and Florida are playing at the USTA National Campus as part of the College MatchDay initiative for the sixth time in the last seven years.
