When she’s not busy hitting balls, Alizé Cornet is a page-turning presence.
Cornet moonlights as a novelist and concedes sometimes characters take her to unexpected places.

When it comes to writing her career farewell scene, author Cornet admits the ending is a mystery.
Camila Giorgi swept Cornet 6-3, 6-4 ending the Frenchwoman’s 19th Roland Garros and raising speculation this was her final match in Paris.
This was Cornet’s 68th Grand Slam main-draw appearance.
Was it her French Open farewell?
“I don’t know. We’ll see,” Cornet told the media in Paris. “The season is going to be long, so that would be in a year. Lots of things can happen in a year.
“I have had lots of ups and downs during my career. I’m still there, nonetheless. Even though there were quite a number of lows, I’m still here, but it’s a bit of a complicated period for me at present. I understand that I can come back. Sometimes you have to be patient and continue and work and practice.”

C’est vertigineux, quand on y pense.

The 33-year-old Cornet, who fell to 4-10 on the season, says she’s committed to playing through the US Open.
Continuing to compete beyond the 2023 US Open will come down to desire, says Cornet.
“But a year from now, question mark? I will try and finish my season until the US Open,” Cornet said. “I will try and play well and do things correctly.
“As far as the desire or the appetite is concerned, you can’t control this, so that’s all I can say this evening.”
