The clay-court Grand Slam announced a series of changes for the 2023 Roland Garros, set for May 22-June 11th.

In a first, Roland Garros will trial coaching from the player box under these rules:
*Verbal” coaching must only be given by the coaches or their entourage from their dedicated box.
*Coaching “must be limited to a few words and must only be given when the player is in the same half of the court as their coach.”
*“Non-verbal” coaching is authorized regardless of what side of the court the player is on.
*During the match, the players are not allowed to approach or start a conversation with their coach, including when they are changing sides or during the breaks at the end of each set, except during a medical break, a bathroom break or when their opponent is changing clothes.
Roland Garros tournament director and Hall of Famer Amelie Mauresmo also announced these changes for the 2023 edition:
*Two additional mixed doubles wild cards will be awarded for the 32-team mixed draw. In total, eight wild cards will be issued for the mixed doubles draw, compared with six last year.
*Night sessions will start a half-hour earlier, at 8:30 p.m., this year. The ten night sessions, scheduled from Monday, May 29th to Wednesday, June 7th on Philippe-Chatrier court, will each start at 8.30 p.m.
*The popular Legends exhibition returns with three different formats: men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. All 14 of the event’s matches will be played on Court Suzanne-Lenglen. Twelve women and twelve men will play the new Legends event.
