This is the second time Chekhlystova has been named to the All-Big Ten Team. Currently, Chekhlystova is ranked No. 68 by the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
“I’m really proud of Sofiya,” said Head Coach Alexandra Anghelescu. “She’s worked so hard since coming to Penn State and it’s paying off for her. She still has a ton more potential and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for her.”
In her first year at Penn State, Girbau is 8-6 overall in singles matches and 3-3 in Big Ten play.
“Carla getting the sportsmanship award speaks volume to her character,” said Anghelescu “She is someone the team really looks up to and is a role model for what we are trying to build here.”
