San Diego – Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele secured the hardware today in San Diego, winning their fourth match in a row to take home the consolation championship.
It was a sweep for the Ducks, but both sets were tense. Oregon was able to hold in the first with a 7-5 win. The pair from Presbyterian (Benson/Milanovic) challenged the Ducks in the second, but UO came out on top with a 6-4 win to clinch the victory.
The run to the finals was not easy, as Oregon faced top competition from around the country. On Thursday, they beat Arkansas’ Adrien Burdet and Alan Sau 6-4, 6-3. On Friday, it was Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan who fell to the Ducks, by a score of 6-1, 6-2. They advanced to the final with 6-4, 7-5 win over Stefan Latinovic and Nick Watson from LSU.
Charlton and Vandecasteele head back to Eugene having won eight of their last nine matches this fall.
