GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Virginia’s Chris Rodesch was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while North Carolina’s Brian Cernoch and Benjamin Kittay earned ACC Men’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week honors.
Cernoch and Kittay took down Louisville’s No. 14 ranked pair of Fabien Salle and Natan Rodrigues, as the Tar Heels blanked the Cardinals to improve to 3-0 in ACC play. The 37th-ranked duo clinched the doubles point for North Carolina in tiebreaker fashion, 7-6 (7-5).
Cernoch and Kittay won the conference honor for the second time in the last three weeks.
Rodesch helped lift No. 13 Virginia to an undefeated week as the Cavaliers swept both No. 15 Florida State and No. 43 Miami, 4-0. The 36th-ranked Rodesch recorded two ranked wins as he downed No. 28 Dan Martin of Miami in two sets, 6-4, 6-2, before defeating No. 2 Antoine Cornut-Chauvinc of Florida State, 6-2, 6-4, which clinched the match. The win marked the highest ranked victory of Rodesch’s career.
