Cats Wrap Up ITA Women's Southwest Regionals


SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The Wildcats finish a solid weekend of performances at the ITA Southwest Regionals.

Sunday 

Almost all of our singles players won their matches in the Extra Sunday draw, but no further matches were scheduled after the first round. 

Saturday 

Ostrzygalo’s journey ended Saturday afternoon in a tough 1-6, 0-6 loss against No. 8 Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine). 

Ostrzygalo and Narendran fell in their second round to Liam Oved and Alexia Harmon (Pepperdine) 6-8. Narendran and Castillo lost to Cecilia Costa and Franco Paulina (Long Beach) 5-8, after receiving a first round bye. Tirunelveli and Tuhten were also unsuccessful in their match, falling to second-seeded Savannah Broadus and Vivian Yang (Pepperdine) 2-8. 

Midori went on to play in the Extra Saturday draw where she defeated Gala Arangio (GCU) 6-1, 7-5. Her next match was not scheduled. Nevenhoven came out on top in a 10 point tie-breaker over Kelly Leung 13-11, but also had no further matches scheduled. Narendran pulled off a straight set win over Daisy Carpenter (Long Beach) 6-0, 6-1, and also had no further matches scheduled. Shogreen, Ghigiarelli, and Tuhten also competed in this draw, but were not able to advance past the first round. 

Friday 

Friday morning Martyna Ostrzygalo pulled off a straight set win against Alexandra Benedetto (Santa Barbara) with a score of 6-0, 6,1. Later that afternoon Ostrzygalo went on to play Ahmani Guichard (UCLA) with another straight set win, 6-4, 6-1. She advances to the round of 32 on Saturday. Midori Castillo came out on top against Kennedy Buntrock (Cal Poly) 7-5, 6-1, but was not able to advance after falling 2-6, 2-6 to Kate Fakih (UCLA). Tanvi Narendran pulled off an impressive win in a three-set breaker against Lucy Lu (Santa Barbara) 6-3, 3-6, 7-5. She fell in her second set 3-6, 0-6 to Emma Charney (USC) Unfortunately, Danielle Tuhten and Stephanie Shogreen did not advance past the initial round. 

Ostrzygalo and Nevenhoven kicked off the first round of doubles with a win over Kayla Meraz and Carolyna Fowler (Irvine) 8-3, and will go on to play Saturday. Karissa Ghigiarelli and Stephanie Shogreen were not able to advance past the initial round. Teja Tirunelveli and Danielle
