Previously On – The Wildcats have lost each latest match against their opponents this weekend. Two years ago KU defeated Arizona on their turf, evening out the overall series between them. Last spring the Raiders knocked out the Cats in the first round of the Blue Gray tournament, and in 2018 the Gauchos swept Arizona at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center. The Wildcats did not win the doubles point in any of those three matches. This weekend the doubles point is absolutely essential.

In the Ranks – Neither Arizona nor any of their opponents this weekend are ranked in the ITA Top 25 teams, however a handful of individual competitors sit in the Top 125 Singles and in the Top 60 Doubles rankings. Representing the Jayhawks in ITA rankings is Malkia Ngounoue at #46. The Raiders have one ranked singles player and two ranked doubles teams: #106 Avelina Sayfetdinova, #29 Metka Komac and Cristina Tiglea and #50 Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova. The Gauchos have one ranked individual and one ranked doubles pair: #43 Amelia Honer, and #15 Honer and Kira Reuter.

Up Next – After their Midwest matchups, Women’s Tennis is back on the road to Montgomery, Ala. for the Blue Gray Tennis Classic Feb. 25-26. Then they’re back in Tucson, Ariz. opening Pac-12 play on Friday, March 3 at 12 p.m. against Oregon to begin a four-match stint at home.
