How We Match Up – Despite Arizona sweeping Utah in their last matchup at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center, the Wildcats have never defeated the Utes in Salt Lake on their home courts. The doubles point will be a huge wager in tomorrow’s match to see which team starts off singles with the advantage. In Pac-12 play, both teams defeated Oregon and Cal, however the Utes dropped their match 3-4 against Washington whereas the ‘Cats swept the Huskies 4-0. Against the Northern Californian teams, Utah came out on top against both Stanford (4-1) and Cal (4-2), but Arizona split, falling 3-4 to Stanford and clinching a close match against Cal 4-3.
Stacked Teams – The Wildcats are well-represented in the latest batch of ITA national rankings with three individuals in the top 125 and two doubles pairs in the top 90: #35 Jonas Ziverts, #57 Colton Smith, #119 Nick Lagev, #41 Ziverts/Jay Friend and #81 Ziverts/Herman Hoeyeraal. Utah also has three ranked indivduals, #61 Geronimo Busleiman, #82 Francisco Bastias, #94 Franco Capalbo and one national doubles duo, #37 Berk Bugarikj/Patrik Trhac.
What’s Next – After the road trip to Salt Lake, Arizona enters enemy territory to face off against #40 against Arizona State in their final regular season match on Saturday, April 22 at 6 p.m. in Tempe. If the ‘Cats pull out a win over the Utes, then they will have clinched a share of the Pac-12 Regular Season Championship. They cannot claim the championship title outright unless they defeat the Sun Devils next weekend.
