BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – No. 3-seed Northwestern downed No. 6-seed Wisconsin 4-1 in the Big Ten Tournament Quarterfinal at IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. to advance to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinal against Michigan.
Early in the match, Wisconsin claimed the doubles point behind wins at #2 and #3 Doubles to take a 1-0 lead.
The Wildcats rallied back, first with a 6-1, 6-3 win from No. 25 Steven Forman at #1 Singles to even the match at one. Gleb Blekher put the ‘Cats in front with a 6-4, 6-4 win at #6 Singles to take a 2-1 lead. After dropping the first set, Ivan Yatsuk bounced back for a 0-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) win at #2 Singles to put Northwestern on the cusp of advancing to the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals. Trice Pickens clinched the match for Northwestern with a 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, 6-3 win at #4 Singles.
First serve for Northwestern’s semifinal date with Michigan is set for 1 p.m. CT on Saturday at IU Tennis Center. The Wildcats have faced Michigan twice in Ann Arbor, dropping both contests to the Wolverines.
