CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis junior Kaitlyn Carnicella advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Carolina Regional Championships on Saturday at the Chewning Tennis Center. Senior Misa Malkin also added a win in the singles consolation bracket.
Carnicella, who is among the tournament’s 9-16 seeds, stretched her win streak to four with Saturday’s victory over Clemson’s Amelie Smejkalova. The Gamecock junior played the key points well en route to the 6-4, 7-5 victory that delivered her to the quarterfinals, matching her best career showing at an ITA Regional. Carnicella will face No. 41 Emma Jackson of Duke on Sunday morning.
Malkin shook off an opening round loss on Thursday morning to put up a pair of wins in the consolation bracket, including Saturday’s 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over UNC Charlotte’s Lucy Hogan. She will face Emilia Roslund of Garnder Webb in the consolation quarterfinals on Sunday.
Complete draws, schedules and results for the ITA All-American Championships will be posted on the ITA Carolina Regionals Tournament Page. Live video and live scores are also available.
Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, players and doubles teams in the ITA Regional Championships can qualify right into the NCAA Championships bracket.
