Carlos Alcaraz is set to make his long awaited 2022 debut. The Spaniard took to social media to report that he is flying to South America to take part in the Argentina Open.

“See you soon, Argentina,” Alcaraz wrote, using the flag emoji. “Looking forward to playing again! @ArgentinaOpen.”

World No.2 Alcaraz has not played since injuring his abdominal area in Paris in early November. The injury was an internal oblique muscle tear in the left abdominal wall with an estimated recovery time of six weeks. He then had to pull out of the Australian Open after injuring his right hamstring in practice.

When he was on court he was brilliant in 2022. Alcaraz went 57-13 with five titles, including his maiden major title at the US Open, where he became the youngest champion at a Grand Slam since Rafael Nadal in 2005. On the ensuing Monday, Alcaraz rose to No.1 in the rankings, becoming the first teenager to ever sit atop the ATP rankings.
