SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Louisville registered two wins to open the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Fall Championship Wednesday at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
Sophomore Natan Rodrigues picked up the first win of the day with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Michigan’s Blake Croyder, who stands at No. 117 in the ITA preseason rankings. He advances to the round of 16 to face Utah’s Geronimo Busleiman on Thursday.
Senior David Mizrahi and freshman Will Mayew teamed to beat Wisconsin’s Gabriel Huber and Michael Minasyan. The Cardinal duo rebounded from a 6-3 loss in the first set to win 6-3, 10-5 and move to the round of 16.
Fabien Salle, No. 84 in the ITA preseason rankings, lost his first round match to Michigan’s No. 42 Andrew Fenty 6-2, 7-5. Salle will return to action in the consolation draw on Thursday when he matches up with VCU’s Matisse Bobichon.
In the first round of doubles, No. 48-ranked Salle and Rodrigues were locked in a battle with Texas-San Antonio’s Sebastian Rodriguez and Alan Magadan, but ultimately fell 5-7, 6-4, 10-4. They will continue action on Thursday in the consolation draw.
