Cardinal Earns National Seed - Stanford University Athletics

STANFORD, Calif. – One of only four programs to appear in all 41 NCAA Tournaments, Stanford earned the No. 7 national seed and will host the first two rounds of the event, beginning on Friday, May 5 vs. Weber State at 1 p.m.

The most decorated program in college history and the winningest program on The Farm, Stanford has won 20 of the possible 40 NCAA championships. Stanford owns a 162-21 all-time record in the postseason since the NCAA Tournament went to its present format in 1982. The Cardinal has won 21 national titles overall in school history, also claiming the 1978 AIAW crown.

The Cardinal (21-2, 10-0) is hosting the first two rounds for the 23rd time since the NCAA adopted its present format in 1999. Stanford will face the champions of the Big Sky Conference, Weber State (12-8, 6-2). The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 18 Oklahoma State (15-7, 7-2) and No. 47 Denver (18-4, 6-0) on Saturday, May 6.

First- and second-round competition features four teams playing in a single-elimination format. The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 12 or 13. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 19-21.

The Cardinal was last seeded No. 7 nationally in 2017, where it advanced to the NCAA title match. In addition to its 20 NCAA championships, the Cardinal has been a runner-up seven times and has never lost in the first two rounds of the tournament at home.
