Cal Ends Regular-Season Home Slate

BERKELEY – The 30th-ranked California women’s tennis team closes its regular-season schedule at the Hellman Tennis Complex when the Golden Bears (9-7, 5-2 Pac-12) face Washington State (7-11, 0-7) on Friday at 1:30 p.m. PDT and No. 19 Washington (15-5, 5-2) on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Prior to Saturday’s match, Cal will honor Haley Giavara and Erin Richardson in its Senior Day ceremony.

Poll Position
Cal is ranked 30th in this week’s ITA team poll, while the sophomore pair of Katja Wiersholm and Jessica Alsola (15-10) is ranked ninth in doubles and Alsola (25-3) – who has won 16 straight matches – is ranked 48th in singles.
 
Bears Beat Ducks, Tigers
Cal won its last two matches, including a commanding 6-1 win at No. 43 Oregon on Sunday and a 7-0 rout at Pacific on Tuesday.
 
Against the Ducks, Katja Wiersholm bested Myah Petchey, 6-2, 6-3, to clinch the win. In Stockton, Valentina Ivanov beat Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle, 7-5, 6-0, to clinch the win over the Tigers. Hannah Viller Moeller and Berta Passola Folch clinched the doubles point for the Bears with a 6-1 triumph over Pacific’s Danielle Zamora and Alexis Sam.
 
Scouting the Bears

  • With a 5-2 conference record, Cal is in a tie for second place with Washington in the Pac-12 standings
  • Cal – which went 8-1 in the conference in the 2021-22 season – is the defending Pac-12 regular-season champion
  • The Bears also won the Pac-12 Championship crown in the 2020-21 season
