STARKVILLE – Mississippi State men’s tennis added a fourth member to its 2023 signing class with the autograph of Radomir Tomic.
The incoming freshman from Zvornik, Bosnia and Herzegovina already has ties with several other Balkan Bulldogs and is set to join the team in the fall. Nemanja Malesevic and Presbyterian transfer Dusan Milanovic also hail from Bosnia and Herzegovina while Petar Jovanovic comes from neighboring Montenegro.
“We continue to hit home runs in the Balkan Peninsula with not only great players, but even better people,” said assistant coach Jake Jacoby. “It definitely helped ‘Rade’ knowing that that Petar, ‘Memo’ and Dusan were Bulldogs already. Petar is close in age with ‘Rade’ and they definitely talked a lot about our strong culture and goals. ‘Rade’ was awesome to visit with along with his family throughout this whole process. We are really pumped to have ‘Rade’ joining us and working with us starting in August.”
Tomic holds a career-best ATP ranking of 1166 and is currently rated No. 1191 in the world. The 19-year-old has made two quarterfinal appearances at ITF 15K tournaments this year and has a UTR rating of 13.02.
“Radomir showed a lot of toughness and grit in his past few months competing in his matches,” said head coach Matt Roberts. “Our assistant coach Jake had the opportunity to see him make a run in a futures tournament where he showed so much mental toughness and belief in himself. We are so excited to get to this point with him and start his next steps of development with our team this fall. He is going to be a great teammate and someone we can count on no matter how tough the challenge is.”
Tomic joins an already loaded class consisting of the reigning Big South Conference Player of the Year in Milanovic, five-star Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes and four-star Marshall Landry.
