STARKVILLE – Fresh off its recent run to the Round of 16 at the NCAA Championships, Mississippi State’s men’s tennis team is proud to announce the addition of four-star standout Marshall Landry to its roster in the fall.
Landry signed with the Bulldogs earlier this week and is coming off a successful season of his own. The Pinehurst native captured the North Carolina Class 4A Singles State Championship this past spring, after finishing as the state runner-up and semifinalist respectively in the two years prior.
“From the day we first got in touch with Marshall and his family, it was clear he and his entire family have a real passion for tennis and finding the place that will challenge Marshall the most as a player,” said assistant coach Jake Jacoby. “He has an amazingly supportive family and has a ton of upside that we hope to help him realize here in Starkville. I know we are very excited to have him join the Bulldog family.”
Landry is a top 100 prospect nationally and the sixth-best tennis recruit in North Carolina according to The Tennis Recruiting Network. He joins fellow five-star American, Roberto Ferrer Guimaraes, as members of the Bulldogs’ 2023 signing class.
“We love Marshall’s eagerness to work hard and impact the ones around him in a positive way,” said head coach Matt Roberts. “He soaked up everything we offer here on his visit and you could see how hungry he was to start training with the Bulldogs. He really wants to be pushed and take advantage of a great training environment. I’m excited to see him make big jumps in his development because he has the drive and athleticism to do just that.”
Landry and Ferrer Guimaraes will be integrated onto an MSU roster that returns four members of its singles lineup, including the top three spots. The Bulldogs bring back three ranked singles competitors and two ranked doubles tandems as well from a team that finished 21-8 overall this past spring.
