GREENVILLE, S.C. – For the seventh time in the last eight years, Mississippi State women’s tennis will open its fall slate at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic.
Play gets underway on Friday at 8 a.m. CT and will continue through Sunday. Players from 13 different programs are participating in the tournament hosted by Furman University at the Mickel Tennis Center.
Several of the nation’s top women’s tennis programs are sending players to the event. In addition to MSU and host Furman, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, N.C. State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and Wake Forest will all be represented.
Georgia (2), N.C. State (4), Ohio State (10), Duke (11), Tennessee (14), Auburn (17) and Georgia Tech (20) all finished in the top 25 of the ITA team rankings this past spring.
The Bulldogs have six players participating in the tournament, including Alexandra Mikhailuk, Dharani Niroshan, Maria Rizzolo, Jayna Clemens, Athina Pitta and Ava Rath.
Mikhailuk enters her fifth season with the Bulldogs, while Niroshan and Rizzolo are in their second season with the squad. Freshmen Bulldogs Clemens, Pitta and Rath will make their collegiate debut during the tournament.
Results from the Debbie Southern Fall Classic will be available following each day of play.
