Bulldogs Finish First Fall Tennis Tournament

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., – Mississippi State’s men’s tennis team has wrapped up its first tournament of the fall.

The Bulldogs entered six players in the International Tennis Federation Fayetteville 15K and saw four qualify for the main draw at the event. Two of those players – Gregor Ramskogler and Benito Sanchez Martinez – were able to reach the second round before bowing out on Thursday.

Ramskogler started the day strong by winning his first set 7-5 over American Warren Wood. However, the 29-year old Wood was able to rally in the next two sets 6-4, 6-0 to claim the victory.

Ramskogler posted a 2-1 record at the event defeating former Ole Miss standout Finn Reynolds of New Zealand 6-2, 6-4 in the second round of qualifying and also knocked off Ireland’s Osgar O’Hoisin 7-6(1), 6-3.

O’Hoisin was the fifth overall seed in the tournament and holds a No. 56 ITF singles ranking.

Sanchez Martinez fell to American Sam Riffice 6-1, 6-3 on Thursday in his first tournament representing MSU. The true freshman also posted a 2-1 record in Fayetteville having defeated teammate Ewen Lumsden 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of qualifying and then took down Finn Bass of Great Britain 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of the main draw.

Bulldogs Carles Hernandez and Nemanja Malesevic were also part of the tournament field.

Next up on the fall slate for State is a trip to Tulsa, Okla., to play in the ITA All-Americans from Oct. 1-9.
