Buffs Swept by No. 23 Arizona State, 4-0


TEMPE, Ariz. – The Colorado Buffaloes Tennis team fell to No. 23 Arizona State 4-0 here on Friday afternoon at Whiteman Tennis Center.

The Buffs fall to 11-9 and 2-6 in conference play after being swept in both doubles and singles action by the Sun Devils.

How it Happened 

  • Arizona State got off to a hot start in doubles action behind m and m winning 6-0 at No. 2 doubles over Mila Stanojevic and Elys Ventura.
  • M and m clinched the doubles point the Sun Devils again defeated the Buffs at No. 3 doubles 6-0 against Ellen Puzak and Betina Tokac.
  • At No. 1 doubles between Colorado’s Antonia Balzert and Aya El Sayed and Arizona State’s M and M remained unfinished at a score of 5-0 in favor of the Sun Devils.
  • Much like doubles Arizona State got off to a hot start in singles winning at No. 6 singles behind a 6-0, 6-1 victory from Rachel Hanford over Carri Hayes.
  • Domenika Turkovic extended the lead for the Sun Devils at No. 3 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Mila Stanojevic.
  • To close out the match at No. 2 singles Chelsea Fontenel No. 98 in the country defeated Elys Ventura 6-0, 6-3.
  • No. 1 singles between Colorado’s Antonia Balzert and Arizona State’s Giulia Morlet remained unfinished in the second set with a score of 6-1, 3-2 in favor of the Sun Devils.
  • Aya El Sayed was closing in on her 11th consecutive winat No. 4 singles when the match was called. El Sayed was leading Marianna Argyrokastriti in the second set 6-3, 4-1.
  • At No. 5 singles Betina Tokac and Sedona Gallagher were in a battle in the second set when the match was called. Tokac won the first set 6-4, but was down 3-2 in the second set.

The Buffs are back in action Saturday against No. 51 Arizona at 1:00 p.m. in Tuscon looking to reach 12 wins for the first time since 2009.
