BOULDER, Colo. – The Colorado Women’s Tennis team comes back home after two matches on the road to host Brigham Young on Friday at 6:00 p.m. MST at the Meadows Tennis Club. The Buffs will look to continue the hot start to the spring season coming in with a three-match win streak with wins over San Francisco, Gonzaga, and Eastern Washington.
The Buffs are coming off of a sweep in Washington over Gonzaga and Eastern Washington in part due to the play of sophomore Mila Stanojevic going 4-0 over the weekend. Stanojevic with the help of her partner Elys Ventura at No. 2 doubles went 2-0 with a 6-4 win over Gonzaga followed by a dominating 6-1 victory against Eastern Washington.
The most impressive win of the weekend came from Stanojevic’s first singles match against Jenna Sloan of Gonzaga. After dropping the first four games of the first set, Stanojevic would win the next five games to take the lead 5-4. After Sloan won the next game to tie the set at five, Stanojevic closed out the set winning the last two games to take the first set 7-5. What followed was a convincing 6-3 win to clinch the point and give the Buffs a 3-0 lead against the Zag’s.
Stanojevic kept the momentum of the first match and dominated in her second singles match against Eastern Washington’s Isabella Foshee. Starting the match off with a golden set, winning 6-0. Followed by a 6-3 win to clinch the point and give the Buffs a 2-0 lead over Eastern Washington. Stanojevic has 7-7 singles record so far this year, but is looking to keep the momentum from last weekend, starting with Brigham Young on Friday.
The Buffs start their weekend with a matchup against Brigham Young at 6:00 p.m. MST at the Meadows Tennis Club. The Buffs have an all time record of 2-20 against BYU, but have won the last two matches including a 5-2 victory during the 2020-21 season. Senior Antonia Balzert was the only Buff to play in that match. Balzert played at No. 3 singles, but lost 7-6, 6-4.
“We did a great job last weekend handling the challenges that we were presented with,” Coach Anthony Pham said. “We have such a cohesive group that will always rise to the occasion. We look to continue getting better at practice this week, but we are excited to be back in Boulder and playing BYU in front of our fans at the Meadows Club.”
