Buffs Fall to No. 13 Stanford 6-1

Box Score BOULDER – BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes Tennis team fell to No. 13 Stanford 6-1 Friday afternoon at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center in the Pac-12 opener for both teams.
 
The Buffs fall to 7-4 overall and 0-1 in the league while the Cardinal improve to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Pac-12. 

How it happened

• Stanford opened the day with a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles from Connie Ma and Valencia Xu over Ellen Puzak and Betina Tokac.
• Colorado then quickly tied up doubles action with a win at No. 2 doubles from Mila Stanojevic and Elys Ventura over Sara Choy and Alexandra Yepifanova 6-3.
• The Cardinals clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory from Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina over Antonia Balzert and Aya El Sayed. 
• Stanford started singles strong with a win at No. 2 singles from Alexandra Yepifanova over Elys Ventura 6-2, 6-3.
• Angelica Blake extended the lead for the Cardinals with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over Mila Stanojevic.
• Antonia Balzert fought hard against the No. 5 player in the country Connie Ma at No. 1 singles but fell 6-2, 4-6.
• Aya El Sayed got the Buffs on the board at No. 4 singles with a win over Alexis Blokhina 6-4, 2-0 (Ret.)
• Valencia Xu won at No. 6 singles 6-1, 6-3 over Carri Hayes.
• Sara Choy finished up the match for Stanford winning at No. 5 singles over Betina Tokac 6-4, 6-3.

Notes

• Aya El Sayed has a five-match win streak at No. 4 singles after defeating the No. 72 ranked player in the country.

The Buffs get back on the court on Sunday against No. 55 ranked California at 11:00 a.m. MST. The match will either be played at the Rocky Mountain Tennis Center or outside at the CU Tennis Complex. The first 100 fans will receive a CU Tennis T-shirt.
