The 2022 season was not only another good collegiate year for the Buckeyes, but it has been a successful one on the professional circuit as well. A number of current players as well as former players, have enjoyed success around the world this year. Six players are currently sitting on a career-high ranking.
JJ Wolf – 83 (83 career high)
JJ has had an eventful 2022 so far and has climbed into the Top 100 in the world rankings for the first time in his career. He’s played well at times at both the Challenger and ATP levels. He’s reached the semifinals of four Challenger events and has also advanced in the main draw at five ATP 500 level or higher events. He advanced to the round of 16 at the ATP 500 in Acapulco in February where he fell to Stefanos Tsitsipas. He then won a main draw match the next week in Indian Wells and then played Tsitsipas again, this time in the second round of the ATP event in Miami in March. Wolf beat American Jenson Brooksby, who was ranked No. 36 at the time, in the first round of the ATP 250 event in Houston. At the Citi Open, he claimed perhaps the best win of his career, knocking-off world No. 22 Denis Shapovalov in three sets and advancing to his first ATP quarterfinal. Wolf has appeared in seven Grand Slams and reached the round of 32 at the 2020 US Open.
Kyle Seelig – 444 (444 career high)
Kyle has had a great 2022 thus far. He has reached the semifinals of five Futures events and won the 15K in Pittsburgh in early July. He also finaled at the 25K in Netanya, Israel where he knocked-off world No. 274 Kaichi Uchida 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. He started his full-time professional career last June and has risen nearly 600 spots in the ATP rankings over the last 13 months.
Mikael Torpegaard – 487 (166 career high)
Mikael has appeared in 12 Challenger events in 2022 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the event in Columbus in January. He has also reached the doubles finals in a pair of events, including the tournament in Shymkent, Kazakhstan in May. Torpegaard has five career professional singles titles, including three Challenger titles.
Blaz Rola – 681 (78 career high)
The former NCAA champion and four-time All-American has played a limited schedule in 2022 as he is recovering from knee surgery. He was ranked well inside the Top 200 at the beginning of the season prior to his injury.
