BLACKSBURG, Va. – Mary Brumfield and Selma Cadar finished the 2022 ITA Division I Women’s Doubles Atlantic Regional Championship as finalists on Monday. Cadar and Brumfield lost to Delaware’s team of Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Eliza Askarova, 6-4, 7-6 (6). The doubles pair now qualifies for ITA Fall Nationals.
“Overall a very good tournament for us as a team,” said head coach Katie Dougherty. “We had a number of excellent performances and two players in the quarterfinals of singles with Fran and Mino making deep runs. Phenomenal job by Fran of qualifying into the main draw and then grabbing 3 quality wins. Happy to see things really coming together for her and Mino on the singles court. Our doubles team came up short to a very good Delaware team in the final but strung together a number of good wins. The team is starting to play some very good tennis here going into our last tournaments – I’m excited to see the continued growth throughout the fall.”
Notable performances from the tournament include Francesca Feodorov and her exciting run from the qualifying singles draw to the main draw quarterfinals, and Minorka Miranda who also competed in the main draw quarterfinals.
