ORLANDO, Fla. — On Thursday, the United States Tennis Association announced that North Carolina teammates Fiona Crawley and Reese Brantmeier were selected to the 2023 USTA Collegiate Summer Team.
The USTA Collegiate Summer Team is composed of the 10 top American college players.
Crawley continues to accumulate accolades after her historic 2022-23 season. Over the course of this past season, Crawley swept the fall competitions when she won both the ITA Women’s All-American Championship and ITA Fall National Championship. She posted a 46-3 record during the season, including an 18-2 record at No. 1 singles. She helped lead the Tar Heels to its seventh ITA Indoor national title as well as the program’s first NCAA outdoor national championship. She bookended her year winning the NCAA Doubles Championship with Carson Tanguilig.
Brantmeier, a Whitewater, Wis. native, continues to build off an impressive freshman season. She ended the year with a 22-4 record in singles play while posting a 26-7 doubles record with three different partners. Brantmeier began the season as an unranked singles player and finished the season ranked in the top-10. Following the NCAA Championships, Brantmeier was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team and was also named an IT All-American. A four-time ACC Freshman of the week award winner, Brantmeier finished ACC play with an 11-1 singles record and finished her first collegiate season with a second place finish in the NCAA Doubles Championship.
Each of the players was selected based on a number of criteria, including rankings, individual collegiate tournament results or Intercollegiate Tennis Association honors. Players on the team are eligible to receive a grant for travel to USTA Pro Circuit events and coaching support over the summer.
Vanderbilt’s Hailey Carter and Southern California’s Danielle Lao will travel with and coach the women’s team. The program is led by USTA National Coach Maureen Diaz.
