SEATTLE – Nationals in November. College tennis will crown the NCAA singles and doubles champions this week, as the tournament takes place in the fall for the first time, as part of a two-year pilot program. Husky senior Cesar Bouchelaghem is among the 64-player singles field, set to make his NCAA Championship debut on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Generally the singles and doubles tournaments have taken place in the spring immediately after the NCAA team tournament. Coaches agreed to change the dates of the individual tournaments for 2024 and 2025 while keeping the team championship in the spring. Rather than players qualifying via their individual ITA rankings, this year players won their way in through multiple tournament roads.
The singles tournament starts on Tuesday and runs until Sunday, with one round each day. Baylor serves as the tournament host in Waco, Texas at the Hurd Tennis Center. ESPN+ will live stream the tournament matches.
Bouchelaghem is the first Husky since Clement Chidekh in 2022 to take part in the NCAA Singles Championship. He qualified by reaching the finals of the ITA Northwest Regional.
In the first round on Tuesday, Bouchelaghem will face Western Michigan’s Anton Arzhankin, with first serve scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Pacific time.
