Boilers Score 2 Against Ranked Musketeers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Michal Wozniak and Mujtaba Ali-Khan’s singles wins secured the lone points in Purdue’s 2-5 loss to No. 61 Xavier on Friday.

Purdue opened the match with a bang as Daniel Labrador/Tomasz Dudek dominated their match at No. 1. The duo leapt out to a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Their 6-2 victory was the pair’s third consecutive victory, and fourth overall win of the season. 

Xavier took the second match at No. 3 and pushed the point to the final moments of doubles play. Julen Morgan/Wozniak went game-for-game at No. 2, and as a result, forced a tiebreak to decide the point. The two Boilers couldn’t hold onto a 3-0 lead, as the Musketeers rallied to take the point in a 7-6(6) thriller.

Following a competitive doubles round, the Boilermakers were swarmed by the Musketeers in singles. Purdue immediately had their backs against the wall as Xavier took the first three singles matches at No. 6, 5, and 4 and clinched the victory 4-0. While the bottom of the lineup wrapped up, Ali-Khan and Wozniak played for their individual records by winning in straight sets. 

Wozniak clinched the first set with a tiebreak and closed out his opponent strong with a 6-3 win in the second set. Ali-Khan improved to 5-4 in his spring campaign after a strong 7-5 finish in his second set after trailing by a game for most of the set.
