WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team faces a quick turnaround from Saturday’s contest as they get ready to host the Ball State Cardinals in a mid-day matchup this Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 1 p.m.
The Boilermakers are coming off of their first road match of the season where they were defeated by the Drake Bulldogs. The Boilers are looking to pounce on the Cardinals and snag the with an upcoming break on the horizon, as Purdue will not face another opponent until Friday, Feb. 24.
Recent history shows that doubles is where the Boilers find their fire. Purdue has won two of the last four doubles points with No. 2 securing the point in both settings. After the match against Drake, Tomasz Dudek became the only player above .500 in doubles when the 6-3 victory elevated him to 3-2 alongside Daniel Labrador.
Singles have been shaky for the Boilers, but head coach Geoff Young has experimented with the lineup in the last three matchups. All seven starters made their season debut at new positions over the last 10 days. The most successful changes have come at No. 1 and 3. Michal Wozniak and Mujtaba Ali-Khan were both given the nod to rise after their 4-2 start to the season. Each player was 1-1 last weekend and both were defeated at Drake after forcing third sets, dropping them to 1-2 since the change.
