Boilers End Season with First Round Exit

Bloomington, Ind. – The Purdue men’s tennis team ended the 2023 season on Thursday with a 1-4 loss to the No. 7 seed Michigan State Spartans.

The Boilermakers lone point came from senior, Michal Wozniak. His straight sets victory over Max Sheldon gave him his second conference win of the season and a season sweep over his opponent at No. 2.

Wozniak will end his career with a .500 record in the Big Ten Tournament, after falling to another Spartan in the 2022 season. He will also tie his career-high in Big Ten victories, while finishing with a 7-6 record at No. 2 in the Purdue lineup.

Outside of Wozniak’s success, the Boilers struggled against the top of the Spartan lineup. Daniel Labrador dropped a match in straight sets to No. 49 Ozan Baris, and Mujtaba Ali-Khan suffered a defeat in his first career postseason in the Big Ten.

The Boilermakers end their season with a first-round exit in the tournament for the second consecutive season against the same Michigan State team that showed them the exit in 2022. Purdue heads into the offseason with a 2-20 record with wins against IUPUI and Butler at home.
