Blue Devils to be Honored at Football Saturday

DURHAM – The Duke women’s tennis program will be honored on Saturday during the Duke football contest against Virginia Tech on Brooks Field at Wallace Wade Stadium.  Opening kickoff is slated for 12 p.m.

The Blue Devils will be recognized as a team during the second timeout of the second quarter for winning the program’s 18th ACC Championship in school history this past April.

Following an impressive year that saw the team close the regular season with a victory over top-ranked North Carolina, the Blue Devils entered the postseason with a No. 5 national ranking.

With early round victories in the ACC Tournament over Wake Forest and Miami, the Blue Devils faced seventh-ranked Virginia on the championship match. Duke clinched the doubles point as Eliza Omirou and Margaryta Bilokin totaled a 6-2 win on court three and Georgia Drummy and Karolina Berankova posted a 7-6 victory on court one.

The Blue Devils then received singles wins from Drummy, Ellie Coleman and Emma Jackson to win the championship with a 4-1 ledger.

Duke then went on to the NCAA Tournament and advanced to the programs 11th NCAA Final Four, after recording victories over Quinnipiac, Old Dominion, Georgia and NC State.  The Blue Devils closed the season with a final ranking of No. 4 nationally and a 23-4 ledger.

Of the eight members of the 2021-22 squad, seven will be in attendance on Saturday for the recognition along with Duke head coach Jamie AshworthChloe Beck, Berankova, Bilokin, Kelly Chen, Coleman, Drummy and Jackson.  Omirou is the only Blue Devil not able to be in attendance.
