DURHAM – The fourth-ranked Duke women’s tennis team continued their homestand on Saturday with a 7-0 victory over Harvard inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.
With the win, the Blue Devils improved to 6-0 on the year, while the Crimson dropped to 3-3. Duke collected its 17th straight home win in the process.
How It Happened
• For the sixth straight match to open the season, the Blue Devils took the doubles point with victories on all three courts.
• Duke’s 13th-ranked duo of Chloe Beck and Cameron Morra were impressive from the start taking a 3-0 lead on Sophia Ho and Maxi Duncan, before closing the match with a 6-1 win.
• Emma Jackson and Iuliia Bryzgalova then clinched the doubles point for the Blue Devils with a 6-3 victory over Charlotte Owensby and Angel You on court No. 3. The Duke tandem went ahead, 3-1, but the Crimson battled back to cut the Blue Devil lead to 4-3. Jackson/Bryzgalova won the final two games to clinch the point.
• On court No. 2, Duke’s Ellie Coleman and Karolina Berankova jumped ahead, 2-0, but Rachel Arbitman and Iveta Daujotaite responded by winning three straight games to go ahead, 3-2. Coleman and Berankova came back and went ahead, 4-3. After Harvard evened the match, 5-5, Duke won the final two games to win, 7-5.
• Coming off providing the clinching point against Wisconsin last weekend, senior Georgia Drummy put Duke’s second point on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 singles win on court No. 4 against You.
• Duke’s 22nd-ranked Jackson put the Blue Devils ahead, 3-0, with a 6-2, 6-0 win on court No. 3. Jackson dropped the first game, before winning six out of the next seven to win the first set and did not drop a game in the second set.
• For the second time this season and 10th time in her career, Beck clinched the victory for Duke with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Owensby on court one.
• With the Blue Devils leading, 4-0, Coleman registered a 6-1, 6-2 win over Sany Gawande on court five.
• After dropping the first set, 4-6, and trailing 2-3 in the second set, Morra made an impressive comeback against Duncan. With the match even, 3-3, in the second, Morra trailed 30-40, but was able to come back and hold serve to take a 4-3 lead. Morra broke serve to take a…
