CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Sunday in the finale of the Kitty Harrison Invitational, the Duke women’s tennis team registered four singles wins and two doubles victories against Old Dominion to close action at the Chewning Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.
Leading the way for the Blue Devils was sophomore 73rd-ranked Eleana Yu with a 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (5) win over 37th-ranked Sophia Johnson to move to 2-0 on the season. Duke’s senior tandem of Emma Jackson and Ellie Coleman closed the weekend with their third straight victories. Jackson, who is ranked No. 41 nationally, totaled a 6-1, 6-1 win over Allison Isaacs, while 53rd-ranked Coleman posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Victoria Matasova.
Duke freshman Ava Krug registered her second straight win on the weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ulyana Romanova, while 49th-ranked Katie Codd dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to Lidiia Rasskouskaya.
In doubles play, the Blue Devil duo of Coleman/Jackson netted a 7-5 win over 77th-ranked Johnson/Rasskouskaya. Duke’s Shavit Kimchi and Yu also collected a 7-5 win over Isaacs/Romanova, while Codd/Krug fell, 6-7 (0), to Matassova/Kira Matushkina.
Duke will next compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Championship in Cary, N.C., Sept. 21-29.
