Blue Devil Women’s Tennis Moves to No. 5 Nationally

DURHAM – As the Duke women’s tennis team prepares to host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend in Durham on January 28-29, the Blue Devils moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point.

Duke (3-0) has now been in the top-5 of the ITA national rankings in 19 out of the last 23 years under the direction of head coach Jamie Ashworth.

Texas received eight first-place votes to remain No. 1, while North Carolina, NC State, Texas A&M, Duke, Georgia, Stanford, Virginia, Pepperdine and Miami (Fla.) round out the top-10 teams.  Five of the 10 teams ranked in the top-10 are from the ACC.

After opening the season with victories against Furman, Charleston Southern and Charlotte, Duke gets set to host VCU, SMU and Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center.

Duke will host VCU on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 10 a.m., and then face either SMU or Wisconsin on Sunday, Jan. 29.  SMU and Wisconsin will face off Jan. 28 at 2 p.m.  There will be free admission for all fans and parking available in the Blue Zone lot.
