THE FLATS – After collecting a pair of ranked singles wins, Georgia Tech sophomore Kylie Bilchev earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Bilchev went 3-1 between singles and doubles, helping women’s tennis collect a pair of wins over the weekend.
Bilchev opened the weekend at Illinois evening the doubles field with teammate Alejandra Cruz, as the pair pocketed a 6-4 victory over the Fighting Illini. In singles action, Bilchev took home her first ranked singles win, defeating No. 70 Ashley Yeah in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. She followed on Sunday with another strong win over Northwestern’s No. 54 Christina Hand, 7-5, 6-4, clinching the victory for Georgia Tech.
This season, Bilchev is 11-4 overall in singles and 4-0 in dual singles matches. In doubles play, the Jacket is 12-5 overall, including an 11-3 record with Cruz, and is 3-1 in dual matches.
Bilchev is the second Yellow Jacket to collect a conference weekly honor this season. Cruz picked up ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Jan. 17.
Georgia Tech returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 18 welcoming Gonzaga to the Ken Byers Tennis Complex. First serve is slated for noon.
