The Nebraska men’s tennis team has four Huskers competing in the 48th Milwaukee Tennis Classic this weekend. Senior Henry Bilicic, juniors Lars Johann and Nikolay Sysoev, and freshman Colson Wells will take on the tournament in Milwaukee, Wisc., which will be their first matches of the 2024 fall individual season. Main draw tournament play begins Friday, Sept. 27 and concludes with singles and doubles finals matches on Sunday, Sept. 29.
In Wisconsin, Johann and Sysoev return to the court for NU, after each claiming at least 10 singles wins in the 2023-24 season. Bilicic and Wells both make their Big Red debuts at the tournament after redshirting the 2023-24 season. Last fall, Huskers Leo Linquet and Calvin Mueller had a strong doubles performance at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, finishing second.
This year, the Milwaukee Tennis Classic will host players from Western Michigan, Pepperdine, Notre Dame, DePaul, Marquette, Navy and five Big Ten programs.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic is the team’s second tournament of the 2024-25 season, following Linquet, Anton Shepp and Joan Torres Espinosa competing at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. The three Huskers fell in each of their opening matches, but Shepp was victorious in his consolation matches in singles, and his doubles match partnered with Linquet.
The Milwaukee Tennis Classic will have live stats available via iOnCourt, and updates on the ITA tournament page. All of the men’s matches will take place at the Western Racquet Club.
