Big Orange Doubles Quarterfinal Matchup on Tap at Knoxville Challenger


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Past will meet present Thursday at Tennessee’s Goodfriend Tennis Center, as current Vols Pat Harper and Shunsuke Mitsui will meet VFLs Hunter Reese and Tennys Sandgren in the doubles quarterfinal round of the Knoxville Challenger.
 
That match is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m.
 
Wednesday’s action saw the duo of Harper and Mitsui win a hard-fought match over Theo Arribage (ATP 151) and Luke Johnson (ATP 225), 6-3 2-6 10-7. The Volunteer pairing converted on both of its break points in the match.
 
In the evening session, Reese (ATP83) and Sandgren (ATP 468) toppled Abraham Asaba (ATP 436) and Ezekiel Clark (ATP 297), 6-7(5), 7-5, 10-5. The tandem capitalized on two of its three break point opportunities, while holding on break point three times out of four.
 
The afternoon saw VFL Giles Hussey (ATP 293) advance to the doubles quarterfinals alongside partner Anirudh Chandrasekar (ATP 218) with a straight-set, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Sathi Reddy
Chirala and Vijay Sundar Prashanth (IND).
 
Sandgren (Singles ATP 288) took down Emilio Nava (ATP 172) on Tuesday, 7-6(6), 6-3 to advance to the Round of 16 in the singles draw.
