STANFORD, Calif. – In a match that started nearly five hours after its scheduled first serve, No. 7 Stanford took care of business, dispatching Kansas State 4-0 with four quick victories in singles. The win is the Cardinal’s second of the season and pushes Stanford to Saturday’s winner’s bracket match vs. Florida State at 1 p.m.
Play at Taube Family Tennis Center was delayed due to moisture on the court all morning, pushing the day’s first match behind three hours before Florida State narrowly defeated Arkansas, 4-3.
The Cardinal took the court in singles first and didn’t need to go farther than four completed matches to find its four points. Alexandra Yepifanova and Connie Ma were the first to finish, just seconds apart from each other on the first two courts, giving up a combined five games between the two of them. Alexis Blokhina wasn’t far behind on court three, a 6-3, 6-2 winner. With attention focused on the back courts, Valencia Xu delivered the knockout blow on court five, 6-0, 6-4.
Stanford looks to punch its ticket to next month’s ITA Indoor Nationals on Saturday, facing Florida State at 1 p.m.
