The 2022 NCAA Singles Champion debuted at No. 97 in the ATP Top 100 rankings on Monday, Nov. 21.
GAINSEVILLE, Fla. – November was a special month for Ben Shelton on the ATP Challenger Tour. His first career Challenger title kicked things off in Charlottesville on Nov. 6 and the 2022 season concluded for Shelton with his third straight title in three weeks at the Champaign Challenger on Sunday.
Finishing November with a perfect 15-0 record, the 2022 NCAA Singles Champion became the youngest player in Challenger history to win three titles (Charlottesville, Knoxville, Champaign) in three weeks. The Gainesville, Fla. native is the 12th player in total to do so, and the only other American to accomplish the feat was Sam Querrey in 2014.
Holding an ATP ranking of No. 173 after the US Open on Sept. 12, Shelton has skyrocketed up to No. 97 in this Monday’s rankings becoming the second former Gator to be ranked within the Top 100 since the 1999 NCAA Singles Champion Jeff Morrison. Additionally, Morrison’s No. 85 ranking on July 8, 2002 is the highest ATP ranking achieved by a former Gator.
Shelton is currently the youngest American in the ATP Top 250. He initially clinched the USTA Wild Card to the 2023 Australian Open, but earned direct entry into the Australian Open main draw, due to being within the ATP Top 104. Shelton joins Morrison as the only other Gator to earn a direct entry into the Australian Open since Morrison did so in 2003.
