Olympic champion Belinda Bencic has announced she is pregnant with her first child.
Bencic, 26, could miss the Olympic Games being held in Paris in July 2024.
The Swiss, who is currently ranked world number 14, last played in September at the San Diego Open where she lost in the round of 32 to Belarusian Aliaksandra Sasnovich.
“Expecting our little miracle soon! We can’t wait to meet you,” Bencic wrote on social media.
Grand Slam champions Naomi Osaka and Angelique Kerber both gave birth in 2023 and plan to return to the WTA from January.
World number 25 Elina Svitolina returned this year after giving birth in 2022, reaching the French Open quarter-final and Wimbledon semi-final.
