Beck/Morra Advance in ITA All-American Qualifying

CARY, N.C. – The qualifying round of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American opened on Monday at the Cary Tennis Park.  Duke’s doubles duo of Chloe Beck and Cameron Morra won a pair of matches to advance to the round of 16.

Beck and Morra opened play on Monday afternoon with an 8-5 win over Xinyu Cai and Taylor Cataldi of Wisconsin.  The Blue Devils then collected an 8-2 win over Snow Han and Nathalie Rodilosso of Southern California.  Beck/Morra will next face Miska Kadleckova and Ange Oby Kajura of Iowa State at 4:30 p.m., on Tuesday afternoon.

Duke’s duo of Emma Jackson and Brianna Shvets dropped their first doubles match, 8-5, to Clarissa Hand and Maria Shusharina of Northwestern, but responded with an 8-6 victory over Marie Mattel and Nandini Sharma of Central Florida in the consolation round of 32.  Jackson and Shvets are slated to face Celia-Belle Mohr and Bridget Stammel of Vanderbilt on Tuesday in the round of 16.

Shvets was the only Duke student-athlete to compete in singles on Monday.  A native of Pennington, N.J., Shvets fell, 4-6, 3-6, to Penn State’s Sofiya Chekhlystova.  Shvets will next face Loudmilla Bencheikh of Alabama on Tuesday at 11 a.m., in the consolation round.

Due to inclement weather, some portions of pre-qualifying action were canceled.

Beginning Oct. 5 for the main draw, CrossCourt Cast will be available for the matches with Mark Bey and Alex Gruskin providing commentary.  Live scoring will be available via the ITA here.
