CARY, N.C. – Chloe Beck and Georgia Drummy of the Duke women’s tennis team each advanced to the main draw round of 16 in singles action at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American on Wednesday at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
Beck, who is ranked No. 5 nationally, defeated Molly Helgesson of UNLV, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2, and will next face North Carolina’s 28th-ranked Carson Tanguilig. Drummy, a native of Dublin, Ireland and ranked No. 8 nationally, also notched a three-set victory on Wednesday with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 win over 17th-ranked Kari Miller of Michigan. The Duke senior will next face 27th-ranked Rebeka Mertena of Tennessee. Both Beck and Drummy will play at 10 a.m., on Thursday.
Duke’s 100th-ranked Emma Jackson dropped a 3-6, 3-6 decision to 10th-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers of Ohio State and sixth-ranked Cameron Morra of the Blue Devils fell, 5-7, 4-6, to 109th-ranked Jayci Goldsmith of Texas A&M in the opening of main draw play.
Next up for Jackson is 125th-ranked Julia Fliegner of Michigan, while Morra will face 34th-ranked Solymar Colling of San Diego in the consolation round at 12 p.m., on Thursday.
In doubles play, Duke’s tandem of Beck and Morra continued their solid play by knocking off 14th-ranked Lahari Yelamanchili and Charlotte Russell of Tulane to move on to the round of 16 of the main draw. The Blue Devils will next take on Nikita Vishwase and Anastasiya Komar of LSU at 4 p.m., on Thursday.
