Bears Fall In ITA All-American Openers

CARY, N.C. – Cal women’s tennis sophomores Jessica Alsola and Katja Wiersholm faced talented competition in their main draw openers at the ITA All-American Championships on Wednesday, with Alsola losing in singles and the two Golden Bears falling in doubles at Cary Tennis Park.
 

Alsola, ranked 50th, fell to N.C. State’s 23rd-ranked Abigail Rencheli, 6-4, 6-4 in the singles round of 32 Wednesday morning. Alsola next plays Texas A&M’s ninth-ranked Carson Branstine in the consolation singles draw on Thursday at a time TBA.
 
On Wednesday afternoon, Wiersholm and Alsola faced the second-seeded and third-ranked Wake Forest pair of Anna Brylin and Brooke Killingsworth, with the Cal duo dropping a 6-2, 7-5 result in the round of 32. The Bears take on North Carolina’s 36th-ranked Carson Tanguilig and Reilly Tran on Thursday at a time TBA.
