MADISON, Wis. — The University of Wisconsin men’s tennis team dominated Purdue for their third Big Ten win of the season Friday night under the sun. The Badgers (10-7, 3-2 B1G) defeated the Boilermakers (2-14, 0-4 B1G), 6-1, at their first outdoor match at Nielsen this season.
The doubles competition was long and drawn out between the two teams. With three very close matches going on, the Badgers held on to pull off the doubles point.
Seniors Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts crossed the finish line first, defeating a tough Purdue pair at No. 2 doubles. The UW pair beat Milledge Cossu and Michael Wozniak 6-4 before moving on to cheer their teammates next door.
At doubles No. 1, Michael Minasyan and Gabriel Huber picked up another 6-4 doubles win for the Badgers shortly after. Their win over Purdue’s Daniel Labrador and Tomasz Dudek secured the doubles point for Wisconsin and sent the match into singles play.
Parts made really quick work of his No. 2 singles match, cruising through the first set at lightning speed. After a 6-1 victory in the first set, he quickly finished the match with a 6-2 win in the second set at No. 6 singles to put the Badgers up 2-0.
Huber tallied the next point for Wisconsin, with a swift two-set win at No. 4 singles. He took down Cossu with a 6-3, 6-2 win, his 10th of the season.
Up next was Vile with the opportunity to clinch the match for the Badgers. He worked his way to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mujtaba Ali-Khan at No. 3 singles to Wisconsin up 4-1.
