Badgers make their mark at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

MILWAUKEE, Wis. –  The Wisconsin men’s tennis team journeyed down I-94 this past weekend to partake in the annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic, kicking off their fall season at the Western Racquet Club. The Badgers squared off against formidable opponents from the Naval Academy, Western Michigan, Nebraska, Marquette, DePaul, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Notre Dame.

The team’s lineup featured four of its eight members: Michael Minasyan, Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton, and debutant Patrik Meszaros. Veterans Minasyan and Beduhn leveraged their extensive Milwaukee Tennis Classic (MTC) experience, while newcomers Meszaros and Fullerton made their tournament debut. All players competed in both doubles and singles play.

In the doubles category, Michael Minasyan and Patrik Meszaros excelled, battling their way to the finals through the main draw. They secured consistent victories against a wide variety of competitors before suffering a 6-1 defeat in the finals versus Ohio State. Collin Beduhn and Matthew Fullerton took on opponents from DePaul and Western Michigan but dropped a pair of close matches.

Patirk Meszaros, in his first collegiate tournament, emerged as a standout performer for the Badgers with four singles victories. His most impressive wins included triumphs over Jameson Corsillo (Notre Dame), 7-5, 2-6, [16]-[14], and over Brandon Carpico (Ohio State), 7(7)-6(5), 7(7)-6(5)

Select Badgers will compete in the ITA Regional Championship that will take place from Oct. 10 to Oct. 14 in East Lansing, Mich.
