Badgers lose to Wildcats in Big Ten Tournament

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team’s 2022-23 season came to an end Friday afternoon when it took on Northwestern in the Big Ten Tournament. The No. 6-seed Badgers (11-11) lost to the No. 3-seed Wildcats (20-8), 4-1.

The Badgers took the first step towards getting revenge for their 4-1 loss to the Wildcats two weeks ago with a crushing doubles point victory.

Seniors Robin Parts and Sebastian Vile wanted to make sure this wasn’t their last match in a Wisconsin uniform, and took matters into their own hands at No. 2 doubles. The duo defeated the No. 88-ranked Northwestern pair of Ivan Yatsuk and Gleb Blekher 6-4 to get the team halfway to the point.

At doubles No. 3, Jared Pratt and Mihailo Popovic dug deep for a 6-4 win over Natan Spear and Trice Pickens. Their victory put the Badgers up 1-0 and on top headed into singles play.

Just as quickly as the Badgers gained the lead, the Wildcats take it back. The Badgers battled all the way to the end, including making it to the third set in four different singles matches, but weren’t able to pull out the win.
