MADISON, Wis. — The No. 54-ranked Wisconsin men’s tennis team closed out the 2023 regular season at Nielsen Tennis Stadium Saturday afternoon when it hosted No. 49 Nebraska. The Badgers (11-9, 4-5 B1G) dropped their match to the Cornhuskers (13-9, 5-4), 4-3.
Before the match, seniors Sebastian Vile and Robin Parts were honored for Senior Day. With friends and family present, the pair earned the only doubles win for the Badgers. After going down early on, the duo battled back to tie it up 5-5, meaning extra games were guaranteed. Vile and Parts took the next two sets, winning their match against Nebraska’s Calvin Mueller and Lars Johann at No. 3 doubles, 7-5.
The Badgers were down 1-0 going into singles but freshman Michael Minasyan changed that really quickly. At No. 5 singles, Minasyan earned a swift 6-2, 6-1 win against William Gleason to end his rookie dual match season.
The Cornhuskers went on a bit of a run, extending their lead to 3-1 before junior Mihailo Popovic put a stop to that at No. 2 singles. Popovic easily took the first set 6-2, before hanging on and closing out his match with a 6-4 win in the second set to put another Wisconsin point on the board.
Last but not least, Jared Pratt earned a win at his last home match as a Badger. Pratt battled through a tough opponent in Leo Linquet at No. 1 singles and managed to take the first set 7-5. After a 6-2 loss in the second, he didn’t disappoint and won the third and final set 6-4 for the team’s third point.
