MADISON, Wis. — The Wisconsin men’s tennis team (0-6, 0-0 B1G) finished off its fourth-straight weekend of tennis with a 6-1 loss to Oregon (5-2, 0-0 Pac-12) on Sunday, Feb. 4.
With just five available players, Wisconsin had to try and make the most of every match. Starting with doubles, the pairs were Michael Minasyan/Matthew Fullerton (WIS) against Quinn Vandecasteele/Mathew Burton (ORE) at No. 1 doubles, followed by Oliver Olsson/Tomas Zlatohlavek (WIS) vs. David Cierny/Ray Lo (ORE) in the No. 2 match. The matches were highly competitive, with both resulting in a seven-point tie break. Cierny/Ray ended up getting a 7-6 (7-3) win over Olsson/Zlatohlavek, which halted No. 1 singles when the match was tied 6-6 (4-4).
Down 2-0 from the doubles point and from forfeiting at No. 6 singles, Wisconsin had to win four singles matches to claim a victory. Unfortunately, Wisconsin dropped four matches, but Michael Minasyian prevailed at No. 1 singles. The sophomore defeated No. 66-ranked Quinn Vandecasteele 3-6, 7-6 (7-2), 1-0 (10-5) for the Badgers’ lone singles victory of the day
